Development of electrical charging method for efficient radioactive aerosol scavenging during nuclear reactor decommissioning

High-power laser application is considered as a promising solution forefficiently cutting structural components and cleaning contaminatedsurfaces in thenuclear reactor decommissioning.However, a significant proportion of submicron radioactive aerosol particles could generate, typically for those within 0.1 to 1 μm, which are challenging to remove using traditional containment water spraysand posing significant environmental and health risks. To address this challenge and optimize radioactive aerosol control, experimental studies at the UTARTS facility of the University of Tokyo focused on laser-generated aerosol characterization and innovative methods for efficient aerosol management. A novel agglomeration technique involving pre-injected charged water mist was proposed and validated under various experimental conditions, demonstrating improved aerosol scavenging performance. Besides, an electrical charging system for water spray was developed and improved through electrode configuration adjustments to accelerate aerosol removal. In this presentation, insights and outcomes from recent UTARTS experimental studies to develop practical and effective strategies for managing laser-generated radioactive aerosols are introduced. The findings contribute valuable knowledge for future development of safe and sustainable nuclear reactor decommissioning strategies.

徐銳聰,現任日本東京大學工學研究科原子力專攻特任研究員。2015年至2021年,于中山大學中法核工程與技術學院完成本科及碩士學業,獲國家獎學金和中山大學優秀畢業生,并獲CTI法國工程師文憑;期間在法國格勒諾布爾國立綜合理工學院、清華大學、中廣核集團等高校和單位留學交換和實習。2021年,獲國家公派前往日本東京大學工學研究科原子力國際專攻攻讀博士學位,并于2024年9月博士畢業。主要研究方向包括:1. 核電站退役及相關環境化工過程中的氣溶膠特性研究及有害氣溶膠的防控技術開發;2. 液態金屬冷卻快堆等先進核能系統的嚴重事故研究與熱工水力分析。目前,已作為研究骨干參與國際合作、國家級、省市級科研項目6項;已發表SCI國際期刊論文近30篇,其中在Nucl. Eng. Des.、J. Nucl. Mater.、Prog. Nucl. Energy、Nucl. Sci. Tech.等核能領域國際權威期刊及J. Aerosol Sci.、Chem. Eng. Sci.、 J. Environ. Chem. Eng.等氣溶膠和環境化工領域國際權威期刊以第一/通訊作者發表20余篇;在Springer國際出版社和清華大學出版社出版學術專著2部。受邀任捷克科學基金會(GA?R)國家自然科學基金國際項目評審專家、任SCI期刊Materials、Appl. Sci.專刊客座編輯、長期任Phys. Fluids、J. Aerosol Sci.、J. Environ. Chem. Eng.、Ann. Nucl. Energy、Prog. Nucl. Energy、Meas.等二十余本國際權威期刊的審稿人。
